Alarming Statistics:
- In 2021, the opioid overdose crude rate in Greene County was 46.3, nearly double the upstate New York average of 23.5. (per 100,000 population)
- Between 2019 and 2022, 52 Greene County residents lost their lives to overdose, with 20% of these deaths occurring in the mountaintop area.
- During the same period, Greene County witnessed 401 overdose events.
- In 2022, most overdose deaths in Greene County occurred in people in their 40s (54%) or in their 20s (18%).
- Fentanyl was involved in 91% of overdose deaths in Greene County in 2022. Xylazine is now suspected of contaminating 20% of supply further complicating overdose events.
- Additionally, almost 19% of adults in New York State engage in excessive alcohol use, resulting in over 6,700 deaths annually in the state.
The MCC Solution: Outreach Center
A Recovery Outreach Center would provide a safe and welcoming location for those we serve and our staff.
It would allow for the expansion of the MCC team, daily programming, support groups, tools available, and training programs.
Services provided by MCC would help folks in recovery navigate the multifaceted socioeconomic challenges.
Having obtained comprehensive plans, a secured location and robust community support, MCC is poised to establish a much needed Outreach Center to further assist our community in need.
