Mountain Top Cares Coalition is a local nonprofit serving Greene County, NY. All of our activities, workshops, and services are free and are for the wellbeing of our community!
Does your mental health take a nose dive in the fall and winter months? Us too. Shorter darker days, holiday madness, family drama, end of year workload - it can start to take a toll. Seasonal Affective Disorder is not uncommon. Lots of folks may even choose to self medicate during this time to help make it through. If you're in recovery, these months can be especially challenging. The good news is, there are easy (and free!) things you can learn and healthy things you can do to help!
We're excited to announce the first annual
Seasonal Gloomies Mental Health Challenge!
Here's the challenge:
1) Commit to joining us for at least one free social event each month during the fall and winter. check out the fun events we offer like hiking, pumpkin carving, and candle pouring!
2) Commit to participating in the free "Get Ahead Of The Seasonal Gloomies" workshop to learn about seasonal affective disorder, depression, and get access to helpful tips & resources. You can attend the in-person series at Prattsville Art Center or you can attend the zoom workshop.
In-person dates: 11/11, 11/18, 11/25, and 12/2 from 6:30-7:30pm. This is a 4-week series on Monday nights and each week will cover a different theme.
NEW! Zoom: 11/12 at 7pm. Condensed version of the 4-week series.
Please register for the workshop dates you wish to attend.
3) Commit to five sessions with a mental health provider between November and February.
Don't have a mental health provider? Don't worry! We've got options! We have partnered with Samantha Bennahum, LCSW, an amazing licensed mental health provider. This partnership allows us to offer ten people up to five free phone sessions with Samantha. We can also help link you up with Greene County Mental Health! (Greene County Mental Health accepts insurance. If you don't have insurance, they can help you get it!)
Why are these three things important?
Engaging in healthy social activities helps reduce stress, reduce isolation, and build community. Education is empowering and access to helpful tools and resources will help you navigate the gloomies beyond the space of the workshop. Working with a mental health provider is beneficial because they can provide you with personalized strategies and emotional support to help manage symptoms, improve mood, and cope with challenges.
Let's tackle the seasonal gloomies together!
First thing, first - take the challenge pledge!
The challenge is free and open to anyone that lives or works in Greene County, NY and is at least 18 yrs old. We ask you to take the pledge so that we may remind you about events or workshops you select and to properly prepare for supplies and snacks:)
If you have any questions, or need help with transportation or childcare to attend events or workshops, don't be shy and give us a shout! Call (518) 560-4278, or contact us here.
You are welcome to join our free events and/or the workshop even if you aren't ready to commit to the challenge.
